The St. Mane family name originated with Charles George St. Mane.

While serving in the Canadian Northwest Mounted Police C.G. used the name Charles G. Simane.
At times he talked about his service with his family and we have one photo of him in his Mountie uniform.

We know he used the nom de guerre of Charles G. St. George when he enlisted in the Iowa National Guard during the Spanish-American War.

Family tradition holds that he also used the names Martin and St. Martin at different times, but we have not been able to verify those names.

Charles George's original birth name also continues to elude us.
